Growing up in the world of competitive figure skating I really took my metabolism for granted. I was at the rink 6 days a week, and was doing off ice training on the daily. It wasn't until I went away to college and stopped training that I started to gain weight. I gained 10 pounds my freshman year, but was still considered a healthy weight so I didn't see much of a problem.  But then I started birth control....

I gained over 50 pounds in just 9 months

and I just could not seem to lose it. I was outgrowing my clothes so quickly that I just started wearing my boyfriends oversized hoodies and sweatpants every day. I was anxious, I was depressed, and I was so physically exhausted that I had zero energy to cook. My meals became fast food from the drive thru on the way home from class every night. When my doctor started talking to me about needing a

5th medication to manage the symptoms

of no longer carrying for myself I knew I needed to make a big change. I tried every internet diet and trending workout under the sun and the only change I saw was decreased energy. Four days into a liquid only diet I came across a fitness trainer's post saying to quit the diet and start the lifestyle change. I hired her instantly and the more she taught me, the more I knew this was going to be my new career. I quit my job and dove head first into the fitness and nutrition world.

I learned to no longer fear food but to enjoy it and to appreciate it for the nutrients it contains. I discovered that food is fuel and I can still

eat pizza and reach my weight loss goals.

I learned to prioritize sleep and set boundaries for myself when self care is needed. I realized that I did not have to run for two hours every day or kill myself on the stairmaster to lose weight, and that lifting through compound movements will get me there faster while also making me stronger in the process. I discovered that THE most important factor in this lifestyle change is consistency and to keep showing up for myself. During this weight loss transformation I also improved my mental and physical health, got my confidence back, and

was able to come off all my medications.
